Surfing Beaches in the North East 0
Considered by some to be one of the best areas for surf in the UK, the north east benefits from swells from the Arctic which make their way down the North Sea. With no exposure to the Gulf Stream however, sea temperatures here are the coldest in England so you have to be pretty committed!
On the plus side, the North East is home to some fantastic waves – from the beach breaks of Scarborough, Saltburn and Whitby for beginners, to famed reef breaks in North Yorkshire for the more experienced, this stretch of coast has something for all abilities.
Despite the brown water, due to sediment rather than pollution, the North Coast is set against some beautiful landscapes, particularly in Northumberland. There are also several cities like Sunderland and Newcastle within easy reach of the coastline which has increased the popularity of the surf scene. The vibe is friendly and laid back.
