Surf Schools on the East Coast 0

The east coast of England from Kent up to Lincolnshire is not particularly famous for it’s waves – at least that’s what everyone assumes. In actual fact the area around East Anglia, and Cromer in particular has waves more often than you might think.

The best waves can usually be had in the winter months, when large stormy conditions in the North Sea push groundswell down the coast from Scotland. The east coast does have waves at other times of the year but they are generally  small and lack power. The water often appears to be an uninviting brown/grey but don’t be put off by this, it’s just harmless sand and silt due to the shallow sea floor in the area.

Surfing on the East Coast

The most popular spots in the area are East Runton and Cromer, which can get busy when the conditions are good. Don’t be put off by this as the locals are very friendly, and the crowds are no-where near as bad as Devon or Cornwall.

Despite the lack of a ‘surf mecca’ status, there are still surf schools on the east coast in Norfolk and Kent, meaning many landlocked surfers have a much closer option to learn to surf than trekking all the way over to the south west.
